Here's to the crazy ones

When Robert and I started New Leaders, the first thing we did was post this poem to our home page. The commercial was the flagship campaign for Apple’s triumphant return from certain death; a second act that had previously never been witnessed. I believe Apple’s core spirit was captured in this commercial, which was the spark that ignited that comeback.

The initial idea behind New Leaders was to create a destination dedicated to “The crazy ones”. As things developed, we realized the only way to one day reach that goal would be to use our talents to generate enough capital to see it happen. New Leaders, in effect, became a design team focused on web applications. Someday, we hope to deliver on our promise of building a destination featuring the people that push things forward.

If you can think back to 1997, ask yourself, “If Apple ended, where would we be today?” Without someone willing to lead us technologically, we may live in a far more complex world. Apple has certainly changed the world many times over in the last 10 years. They pushed us forward with the iMac, iTunes, iPod, and iPhone. They are a shiny beacon of light in a world of darkness. Apple’s story teaches—you are what you believe yourself to be.

We wanted to share this, because it is important to understand where our beliefs lay. What being a New Leader really means to us. Not one of us measures up to any one of the leaders featured in this commercial. But we aspire to that end. For the New Leaders, it is not about how many people work here, or how much money we make. It is, rather, how much impact we have on the world around us.
