Video: Gary Vaynerchuk
I have never been a big fan of WineLibrary.tv. I am more of a coffee drinker. Sometimes I find Gary a little annoying, but he recently said something that I deeply believe in — Better than zero. This statement got me excited because it is what it takes to build a real business. If you have to sell it for less than what it is worth, do it. Something, anything is better than nothing.
I was reading my Twitter feed and Ryan Carson posted a video of Gary speaking at the Web 2.0 Expo in New York.
On stage, Gary is just laying out what he believes — Nothing fancy. Not only is this the perfect example of how to excite people about your ideas, but he speaks the truth about passion, patience, and brand equity. Any future entrepreneur should watch this. User Discretion is Advised.
At New Leaders, we are doing what we love, first and foremost. We don’t build in order to have customers, we have customers in order to build. We are big fans of Apple, 37Signals, Starbucks, and Google; we don’t pretend not to be. We are out to reform web site design, which is notoriously expensive and complicated, and make it easily accessible to people. There is no catch. We just love what we do and know the impact that good web design can have on a business.
A few years ago I owned a small footwear brand with some guys that were really, really into shoes. Their simple passion and honesty made its way into the culture, marketing, and the products they produced. They wanted to make great shoes because they loved shoes. We struggled, but I learned so much about investing one’s self into the work; to live it. Life is much too short spent not doing what you love, on your own terms. In Gary’s talk, he communicates the importance of having that passion.
