Dashcode Widgets

You may have noticed from time to time that we’ll post to The Leader Board a Mac OS X Dashboard Widget that we made. We are currently learning to create installable client software for the Mac and iPhone. I have been tasked with being versed on user interface development applications, such as Dashcode and Interface Builder. At New Leaders, we have a firm philosophy that the only way to learn what it takes to ship an application is to release it publicly. But, adding tons of New Leaders widgets isn’t what we want our the focus to be. These are more like experiments, before I work up to more complex web clients. So, we created a site that allows my widgets to be shared with the world.

Dashcode Widgets

When I began searching for ideas for simple content syndication widgets, I noticed that many favorite sites such as TED, Diggnation, TwiT.tv, and TechCrunch don’t even have one. So, I decided expressing my admiration for these brands, and serving my own content consumption needs would be a good place to start.

When I started crafting these little guys, the team convinced me to let other people play with them. Most of them act as simple reminders when new content becomes available. You can listen to them while you work, or take a break and watch an episode. There is a script you can use to run them on your desktop. The website itself was created in about 12 hours, from Photoshop to deployment, using the new web application platform called Thincloud .

These are really nothing more than a hobby by a fan. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do making them.
