What is Studiocast?
Studiocast is an online talent casting solution for directors, producers, and casting agents. It removes the “chain of pain” resulting from the chaotic management of actor, entertainer, and model profiles. Studiocast was conceived in its entirety by New Leaders. Our goal was to bring a classic entertainment industry process into the 21st Century.
What did New Leaders do?
Dariea Garibaldi came to New Leaders with the idea of approaching online talent casting in a revolutionary way. Studiocast is cutting edge technology for the casting of actors, entertainers, and models. It utilizes the power of the web to reduce the costly process of finding and managing Hollywood talent. The Studiocast application allows talent to create headshots using a web camera linked through Adobe Flash, or to upload their own digital photos. The ability to login and update headshots, manage profile content, and even embed YouTube videos of previous work are key highlights. Studiocast also allows agents to create virtual casting calls where their talent can be considered for specific parts. The cost-savings versus traditional methods are enormous. Agents can manage a database of talent and recommend specific clients by issuing logins with customizable access. Studiocast uses Adobe Flash combined with Ruby on Rails to “coverflow” through the prospective talent headshots. A powerful image-based search, along with tag filtering, facilitates rapid location of the desired talent, adds them to a clipboard, and ultimately, to a specific character.
What were the results?
Studiocast sports an unusual and novel user interface. Although black websites are commonly considered taboo, this venture has brought us the best feedback of any user interface we have ever created.
